Platinum - Friday 23rd March 2007

I had been waiting for this day for around 8 months and it was finally here.  I had already got to know 4 of my fellow platinum ladies and we had swapped many e-mails before  arriving in Vegas, several of which were about what we should wear!  And although I had 2 outfits to choose from in the end went for number 3!

I felt nervous on and off all day, which reduced my capability to actually eat much that day.  Tried relaxing by the pool but that didn't really work.  Had a glass of wine before hand so felt a bit more relaxed!

Arrived at the theatre at 6.30pm as I didn't want to be late but the others were already there! 11 of us in all,  5 Brits, 1 Japanese and 5 Americans.  We collected our passes and tickets, showed our ID and were led back stage.  It was very quiet in the green room and Barry's staff did comment on how quiet everyone was!  We had our champagne and it was explained to us exactly what was going to happen that evening.  It's great walking past all the pictures of Barry on the wall on the way in to meet him.

Half an hour passed and the first lady went in just before 7.30pm.  I was number 7 so still had a while to wait, but it did come round really quickly.  I had to wait at the bottom of a small flight of steps for a couple of minutes and this was the most nerve-racking bit, I am sure anyone who has done this will agree!

Finally, I was taken up the stairs, through the door and there he was!  I was introduced, twice, because Barry didn't hear them say what my name was the first time.  I went straight over and leaned on the bar, to stop me from falling over!  Barry squeezed my hand and said "hi", and then I felt ok!  He said my name was an unusual one in America and then we chatted about the other English fans that were over that week and how bad the weather was in the UK and so it was nice to be in Vegas.  Then there was a pause so I told him the personal things I wanted to say about his song that meant the most to me, plus about my love of music.  Time seemed to whizz by but I think I nearly had 10 minutes (probably because I talked too much, once I started there was no stopping me!).  Then it was time for the official photo, a hug, and then I was handed my signed programme and disposable camera.

We were all led into the theatre, and felt like celebrities!  The intro music had just started, and the atmosphere was electric.  I found my front row seat which was dead centre, an amazing view to see the concert from, especially "Somewhere Down The Road", which was incredible!  We also got to hear "Blue Velvet" and "Memory" which were two different songs from the Wednesday night show.  As the curtain was coming down at the end Barry bent down and waved to us all in the front row as if to say "thanks for coming"!

All the shows that week were fantastic! I had seen the show previously in September 2005 and February 2006 but it was very different this time, Barry just seems to get better each time I see him.  Roll on 2008!
